Gilt bronze, size 9 ¼ with slightly rounded section band, 1.7mm diameter. Lenticular bezel, unbordered and deeply incised with cabalistic ciphers. While similar to Roman signet rings, the bezel in not of sufficient thickness for sealing. As well, signets are flat while this bezel is rounded. Clearly of mystical significance and probably the ring of a sorcerer. The form of the ring is Roman without the heavy bottom found on Roman rings. That is a natural progression of form as Europe descended into the Dark Ages and paganism evolved into many regional variations. Professionally conserved with the 24karat gold surface restored. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity. Fine wearable size.
