7th-10th centuries. Under 1 1/2” (1.42”) height including the original hinged suspension loop. Broad beams, the cross beam centered with a square at the junction. Each beam with a tapered incised medial and the square with matching radials. The back hollowed for the inclusion of a holy relic, typically, a hair of a saint or a splinter of the true cross. Carried by European Pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land to visit the land where Christ lived and died. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored, on an 18” gilt Sterling silver neck chain for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
